A burger lineup at Little Bitty Burger Barn.: Tony Bullard photo
Talk about your little engine that could. Little Bitty Burger Barn Barn, 5503 Pinemont Ave., earned more than 25 percent of the votes when we asked readers to tell us who builds Houston’s best burger. Second and third place went to Tookie’s in Seabrook and homegrown chain Becks Prime, respectively.
More than 11,000 votes were cast and we had more than 200 write-ins and Tweet votes. Nearly 60 percent of the votes went to the top three finishers. Other burger spots in our poll included Bernie’s Burger Bus, Bubba's Texas Burger Shack, The Burger Guys, The Burger Palace, Christian's Tailgate, Hubcap Grill, Rockwell Tavern, Roznovsky's and Sam’s Burgers, Fries and Pies. Pappy’s Grill and Prince's were the top write-ins.
The winner of the $100 gift card for “best burger review” goes to Twitter user @DontFollowVal. The epic review of Hubcap Grill can be found in its entirety online at 29-95.com/restaurants. Here is a sample:
“One thing I can say about Hubcap Grill is that it prides itself on fresh ingredients and making sure your burger standards are met. The staff is friendly (hey, Ricky’s Mom & Dad!!) and welcoming. I respect the owner, Ricky, for his passion and hard work. You can see him at any given time talking to customers and tidying up the place. Ricky gets a lot of criticism for how he responds to negative feedback from trolls. That’s because he puts his heart and soul into Hubcap Grill.”
never been there, need to try it. beck's prime at 3rd is laughable.
What the hell.
Not possible. Results skewed by players.
I agree the numbers were jacked. Little Bitty Burger Barn is very good. Still have Hubcap Grill #1 and Burger Guys #2. But Tookie's??? 1983 called and it wants it's burger back. They were outstanding back in the day. That day was a long time ago.
Hmmmmm, I'm not sure how this happened. I went to the barn about 2 months ago and thought it was pretty decent, but not deserving of a special trip. To each his own.
Peter, you've got my vote!!! Please see my post down below.
Good job keeping Lankford Market off the list. It's crowded enough at lunchtime as it is.
I could honestly see myself requesting Little Bitty Burger Barn's sliders w/ cheese as a last meal. They are perfection.
I do not believe the numbers are jacked, 'course I am an LBBB regular. Jay and Ricardo simply have a great relationship with their customers and we all love LBBB enough to vote. You can argue it's not the best burger if you wish, but it's simply true their fanbase voted more. What an odd reaction to insist it's a cheat rather than a good voter turnout.
Well, here I go: First off, I tried LBBB once, it was good, went back once more, it was fair. Ok, so the thing that kept swarming in my head was, firstly, the decor. Looks and feels like they opened an abandoned building and started cooking; the place is filled with DUST. Secondly, I didn't take too well to those little plastic mice spread throughout and outside the restaurant, there's was also a jumbo plastic spider in the ladies restroom; the rodents/insects gave me the creeps! So, all I can say about my experience there is that the hamburger BUN was quite different and not bad at all. I can't and will not go back. I was very uncomfortable; something just isn't right with that place. Good burger or not.
You must've been there around Holloween, that's when they bring out all the critters..
The reaction to some of you guys is shocking, yet not surprising. You don't LIKE LBBB? Take your business elsewhere...trust me, they have PLENTY. You're talking about two very hard working guys doing right by our neighborhood. No apologies, no shame here...for rooting for the "Lil Guy". To: The Laffr: WHERE is your sense of humor?!!! Evidently you left it at the door, not ONCE, but TWICE! Shame on you! Thank YOU for NOT wanting to come back!!! I personally, would NOT want to be around people like YOU!
LOL! With a name like BANDIT, I truly find it hard to believe that YOU have a sense of humor....but, maybe you do. You get off seeing people look for their possessions once you've obtained them without permission, right?!...yeah, thought so. But on another note, if "mice and men" is what you crave, knock yourself out. I, personally, do not and cannot find any "humor" in mice and/or spiders staring me in the face as I try to enjoy a nice meal. Perhaps you own the place! Enjoy your mice meat.
LAFFR, won't try to change your mind but will tell you this: the buns are from Slow Dough, our superb local baker. They only sell to the public one place i know of, Revival Market in the heights at 6th street. They make bread and buns for restaurants, and sell very little to the public. Highly recommend a loaf of their bread.
Hi Tom, thanks for the tip. I will go by there and see what's up. Happy Eating! ;-)
I went to LBBB for the first time on Wed and was seriously impressed. I orded their blue cheese burger called that stinker or something like that. Wow!!! The buns were infused with pieces of bacon and blue cheese. Enough said. This place was the bomb. This is coming from someone who is not a regular but a first timer.
Hat's off to these guys for their genious combinations and flavors.
Little Bitty Burger Barn is the shizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!! Been there 3 times in a week, had never had it and once I did I went back 2 more times..
