Oysters as served at the original Liberty Kitchen.: Karen Walker : 29-95
There’s a new life ahead for the former Vida "Sexy Tex-Mex" Restaurant space.
Partners Lee Ellis and Lance Fegen will open Liberty Kitchen and Oysterette at 4224 San Felipe sometime in the first half of 2013.
In a release Ellis and Fegen say of the new venture:
“We learned a lot as Liberty Kitchen grew into the neighborhood, the menu is never static, it evolves constantly. However, what will be the same is great food and service, supported by a high energy, focused staff. This big brother (4,000 square feet) to the original Liberty Kitchen, should be described as ‘similar but not the same.”
Foodies with good memories may recall that that that address originally was to have been Vivo, a high end Mexican restaurant created Austin-based chef Paul Petersen. There was even an awning!
When those plans fell through, the property’s owner Trey Melcher opened Vida, which had a unique-to-Houston no-kids policy. It closed in September.
This is going to be a great match for this beautiful center!
when couples from sugarland and woodlands put Liberty Kitchen on their bucket list you could notice a shift in crowd vibe, slipping quality of food an declination of service at the Liberty Kitchen. Now the push to grow or capitalize has found itself ahead of good site selection. very poor access, poor visibility, tight parking and a customer base older and certainly familiar with tired of similar concepts that sprouted up in Austin and the palo alto area during the 80' and 90's spell doom for this location.
Obviously you don't spend a lot of time inside the loop. Most of these shopping centers have tight parking (or no parking for that matter) yet have very successful businesses, and this center is located next door to the St Regis Hotel on a very busy street. I think this will be a fabulous place for Liberty, and I can't wait to try it out as the Heights location is too far away for me.
I wonder if they still charge for bread, like some reader asserted a while back. Maybe that's how they can afford a second place.
Personally, I'd love to see a new restaurant open up with a no-kids policy. Saves me from listening to other people's squalling brats and helps me concentrate on enjoying my meal.
Yep! Couldn't agree more. There's a time and place for everything. There are idiots out there that bring their kids onto bar settings and could careless about the environment. I don't let it stop me from drinks and telling stores, that's their problem. The other night I would scream back at em and they left. Take em to MacDonalds or Chuckie Cheese!!!!!!
Are you serious?? People brought their kids to a bar?? I want details - which bar and at what time of day? Are these people brain-dead or what?
I was at a popular steakhouse's bar for happy hour the other day and a woman was sitting at the bar next to me, playing a Tejano tune on her iPhone so loud it was distracting. When I politely asked her to please turn it down a bit, she looked at me as if I'd told her she smelled bad and dressed funny. I did what you did - stared her down.
And no, I couldn't move or change seats because the bar was full. Fortunately she avoided the conflict and flicked it down a hair.
Some people are so rude it's nauseating.
