    Yes, I'm a fan boy.

I couldn't wait to see Joey Galluzzi, runner-up in NBC's America's Next Great Restaurant.

Fans of the show will recall that Galluzzi's proposed name for his would-be restaurant was Saucy Balls. Midway through the series, Galluzzi finally gave up on his naughty name for the more-grandmother friendly Brooklyn Meatball Co.

The first Brooklyn Meatball Co. store, a counter-service restaurant, opens here in Houston May 14. It is located at 930 Main St. in the McKinney Food Court in the tunnel underneath McKinney Place Parking Garage.

On the menu are three types of meatballs -- classic beef, turkey and eggplant -- that come with your choice of sauce (marinara, spicy marinara, gorgonzola and pesto. Meatballs are one for $3, two for $5 and three for $7. You also can get a Saucy Sub or meatballs on top of your choice of pasta.

Are saucy balls anything like Schweddy Balls?

More like salty chocolate balls. They had better be some really big meatballs @ 2 fo $3.

    not open Mon, 05/14/2012 - 12:03pm

They are not really open today. Had seen Joey on the show and wanted to support his dream so walked from the farthest point of the S Louisiana tunnel for the yound lady to say "Oh well, sorry about that, we decided tomorrow would be a better day to open", even though this article advertises it opens today.

Can't always take the time at lunch to walk across downtown and back so supporting this small businessman and chef will have to wait.

Looking forward to comments to those who can get there when they really do open and can try the meatballs.

Your not missing much. Went today and it was not that great. Not sure where all this hype is coming from. Definitely not worth the trip nor the cost. Go get yourself some meatballs from HEB for 2.50 in a bag in the frozen section. It is quite good. Sorry not big on Italian food at all, they taste all the same and there really isnt any flavor to cry home about. I will have to travel to Italy to really get some thing authentic, hopefully its different there when i visit this Summer. Been to all the major cities...not comparable at all...

Dude, seriously -- do you have a problem with this guy or are you just an owner/employee of one of the other places in the food court. This is the 3rd site on which I've seen your negative review WORD FOR WORD. I get that you want to get the word out if your experience was really that bad, but at least change it up a bit. But the fact that you're blanketing the online review scene with your cut-and-paste appproach leads me to believe that the former applies.

Anyway, a group of "foodies" from my office went today and we were impressed. Good food, and while it's not "cheap" it also isn't expensive, but that's really a subjective statement. It's worth a try for sure!

Really good food. My first trip, but it will not be my last. I decided to play it safe and have a sub with original sauce...YUM! And be sure to try the cannolis...super awesome!

And Joey seems like a genuine good guy! I was impressed with the way he oversees the prep of each order...it's not like a regular sub shop where they just slop the stuff down. This guy is a chef and you can tell he takes pride in his work.

I will be going back often!
