A new happy hour menu at Hugo's

    On Wednesday, Hugo's rolled out its new happy hour menu. And by happy chance, 3/4 of the 29-95 staff was sitting at the bar. (Sorry, you missed it Sara.)

    In addition to a $5 HH beverage menu (margarita, sangria or mojito), there's nearly a dozen sharable appetizers. Let's be clear, these aren't $2 apps, but the menu is nicely priced for the quality of food.

    Among the appetizers we tried:

    • Camaroncitos al Mojo de Ajo: Small shrimp cooked with garlic and lime ($8). The menu said "small" shrimp, but we were served four large, defty spiced prawns.
    • Tostada de Lengua en Escabeche: The thinly sliced beef tongue was slightly sweet and surprisingly tender. ($7)
    • A duo of ceviches, including campechana ($11)
    • Hongos Rostizados con Queso: A lovely mix of mushrooms and Chihuahua cheese. ($6)
    • Costillitas del Bar: The winner was these mesquite-grilled pork ribs served over black rice with pickled red onions ($9)

    Other happy hour offerings include street tacos (grilled catfish and duck among them), a lobster taco and pork meatballs in chipotle sauce.

    The happy hour menu is offered 4 p.m.-7 p.m. weekdays. We'll be back.

    5 dollar sangria and two kinds of ceviche? Sold. Presuming I could ever get out of work before midnight in the next few months, that is.
