Sommelier Vanessa Trevino Boyd will oversee Phil's Wine Lounge.: Studio Communications photo
You can call me Phil.
Philippe Restaurant & Lounge today launched a casual new wine bar. So casual it’s called Phil.
Phil’s Wine Lounge, a concept that chef/owner Philippe Schmit has been talking about for months, is now a reality. The lounge may bear Schmit’s Americanized moniker, but it carries the distinct stamp of sommelier Vanessa Trevino Boyd, who is showcasing more than 80 wines by the glass – one of Houston’s most extensive glass program.
Boyd’s list, which will offer almost a dozen rose wines, will be priced from $7 to $16 per glass. During happy hour, the wine will offer half off all open bottles.
“Houstonians have become increasingly interested in more far flung and boutique wines and producers,” Boyd, which Food & Wine magazine named as one of the nation’s top sommeliers, stated in a press release. “This inspired me to develop a list that would give guests an opportunity to explore new or unique offerings they wouldn’t have otherwise ordered – in an equally flavorful setting.”
That setting is the newly revamped ground level of Philippe. Next week chef Schmit will launch a menu to pair with Boyd’s wines.
You can be one of the first to check out Phil's at Philippe, 1800 Post Oak Blvd., 713-439-1000.

For when you get better!!
It sounds like an interesting idea. The restaurant is beautiful.
Get a new chef first!
Moo. Yes moo. That is what I said. Moo.
Sounds a lot like a desperation move to bring in business... must be hurting over there.
The author should know that basically every wine bar in the city offers all their wines "by the glass" - most of them require you to buy two glasses minimum - but that means every wine in those places is "by the glass" - so there are many more than just the 80 on this list. This woman should know that as well - she worked at the Tasting Room before getting this job.
