UPDATED: The burglary was caught on tape. Anyone know this guy?
At the bar at Plonk.: Karen Warren : 29-95
It’s take more than some “neighborhood punks” to take down plucky Plonk.
“The only thing they made off with was the recipe for our Guanciale Burger,” owner Scott Miller said by phone Tuesday afternoon. (The burger named for its special bacon was tagged Houston's best by Houston Press in 2011.)
The quip was in response to questions about a break-in the wee hours of Tuesday that left the Oak Forest restaurant, the only wine bar to make critic Alison Cook’s Top 100 Restaurants, with a mess.
Chef Erin Smith shared the news on Twitter earlier just after noon today.

“It’s a horrible way to wake up in the morning,” said Miller, who declined further comment on the burglary, citing the ongoing investigation.
He did add that the restaurant would be open its regular hours starting at 4 p.m. today.
Plucky Plonk. We expected no less.
Balsy move considering HPD outpost is across the street. How much did they pay Alison's to get on that list? This place is overpriced and the crowd is incredibly snooty for Oak Forest. Either Shepherd Park or Corkscrew on 19th blow this place out of the water.
Obviously your taste should be questioned. nothing snooty about the restaurant or its patrons. Maybe you are not good enough for Plonk!
Have to admire the humor in the face of adversity. I hope the skels are apprehended and made to wear orange jumpsuits for a long time.
Oak Forest folks love Plonk. Friendly staff, excellent food by the chef and a great wine selection. Oak Forest needs more restuarants and wine bars like Plonk instead of Carl's Jr, Taco Bell, KFC and McDonald's.
Perhaps this is an inside job?
Love Plonk. Great food and wine. Never noticed any pretensions by staff or customers. Go there often. Best Margharita pizza in town.
I really hope one of those snooty MFers remembers the recipe to one of the best damn burgers in the free world.
And lulz at the thought that the HPD storefront across the street would offer even a nominal deterrent. Folks that are inclined to smash and grab a safe would hardly be deterred by the silver haired ladies who run that outfit.
Get better soon, Plonk. Long live the '018
Plonk is great for the area. Finally I dont have to drive more than 5 minutes for an excellent meal. Only downside is the awkward ordering system. Staff always friendly and the prices go along with the quality of the food.
Sorry to hear it was broken into. I'll stop by Thursday with a co-worker from England.
To the moron who thinks Corkscrew is better than Plonk....you clearly do not have a palate for food or wine.... Plonk is friendly, food is great and the atmosphere is lively. If you want an icehouse atmosphere go to corkscrew where the wine selection is grocery at best....
Snooty? How low is your self confidence? Plonk has great food and the patrons, me being one of them, is far from snooty. The owner even shared a bottle of wine on the house with me and my friend all because he wasn't serving our favorite pizza. Nothing snooty about that. Wonderful place with friendly people.
SHAME THEY GOT VIOLATED
PLONK MOSDEF OVERPRICED AND YES THE STAFF IS PRETTY PRETENTIOUS
I PREFER PETROL STATION BECAUSE OF THE AWESOME STAFF AND GREAT FOOD
Why do you have to be so binary. Plonk vs Petrol...really! Petrol serves beer and greasy crap that goes down well after you've had too many. Plonk serves wines and food like salad with octopus (what man doesn't like a good octopussy). Sometimes you might feel like plonk and sometimes you might feel like Petrol. Both are great and yes you are a troll.
I don't believe there is anything snooty about this place at all. Great wine, great food! The prices are no more than any other Heights or Galleria restaraunt, and the selection is much more creative. The staff and owners are always nice and attentive, even on busy nights. Plus they have play great jazz!
Never been there but love the name (Brit slang for cheap wine).
I wish them the best.
A shame about the burglary. I agree with other commenters that there is an air of pretension, but it's of the totally harmless variety. And it's not the staff it's more from the patrons. It is even evident in some of the posts. For example, I don't find it totally amazing to meet and talk to the owner. I'd rather just have dinner with the person I came with. But some people get a thrill from that kind of thing. To each his own. The place is not exclusionary and hopefully not too many people are turned away because the food is worth it if that's your reason for going there.
