Red Lion toasts poet Robert Burns and other Houston restaurant news

    Red Lion Pub will raise a glass to Scotland’s favorite son Saturday, Jan 28, with Burns Night. (The poet Robert Burns’ birthday was Wednesday.) The party gets under way at 7 p.m. with traditional Scottish music and plates heaped with haggis. Kilts are encouraged, and one kilt-wearer will walk away with a $250 gift card.

    New tapas bar in town
    1252 Tapas Bar has opened a second restaurant. The new spot, located in Vintage Park Shopping Center, offers live music, an extensive wine list, house-made sangria and a large menu of small plates.

    Boston’s helps children’s hospital
    Now through Feb. 26, Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar is running a special promotion benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which treats children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Boston’s is donating $1 of each sale of its heart-shaped pizzas, Red Velvet Cheesecake and gluten-free brownie a la mode.

The restaurant has added oysters on the half shell as off-the-menu special and is topping the bivalves with an array of yummy things such as salsa verde and balsamic syrup.
