Blake’s Bar-B-Q & Burgers is preparing for its shot in the national spotlight.

A film crew with the Travel Channel will call on the 30-year-old restaurant on Feb. 4. Blake’s is to be featured on an upcoming episode of "Burger Land."

“We don’t know what to expect,” owner Don Blake told 29-95. “We’re just excited about the opportunity.”

Burger lovers are invited to drop by the restaurant on the day of the shoot. Blake said the crew was expected to spend four to five hours at the restaurant.

So what’s the big deal with Blake’s burgers?

In a 2009 Cook’s Tour review, Alison Cook gave the burger an A rating and said:

This burger succeeds madly on the sandwich level. It’s a judicious mix of flavors and textures: the crustiness of the patty, the soft, sweet slide of caramelized onion; the decided snap of all that crunchy chopped iceberg and pickle. The mustard adds kick; the mayo and cheese exert their softening influence; and the thin bun holds up nicely, thanks to the energetic butter-browning both sides undergo on the griddle.

Don Blake serve a darn fine hamburger and is also one outstanding person.
    Congrats Don!

Blake's is CRAZY dirty inside. Not a little cute, hole-in-the-wall ambiance, dirty...but DIRTY. The ketchup bottles have months of crust built up around the rims and caps. The tables have a layer of film on them.

The prices aren't particularly reasonable, either.

Harvey, that's how I felt about the Little Bitty "dirty" Burger Barn. Yuck!

Alison's reviews now appear in the Wednesday Flavor section, which has been expanded to a dining and cooking section. They are available online at houstonchronicle.com.

30yrs in Business, well done! Glad they chose this place over one of the recent foo foo burger places with the arrogance and their free range, beer massaged, grass fed, gnome hearded, meats...

Those fries look good too. Alison has such a way with words, we are lucky to have her as our very own.
