“Our recommendation is Cilantro’s”l, located just west of I-45 on FM 1960, a Mexican restaurant which we have frequented for many years. Over the past 10 years, Cilantro’s has served the same delicious Mexican meals and with the same wait staff. We have tried numerous Mexican restaurants; however, it has been our experience that the service and food found at Cilantro’s keeps us going back for more.”

“I live inside the loop in Houston but my son, who lives in Spring, dragged me way out to Kuykendahl for the best Mexican food. It is called Hacienda Isabel. Clean, great food and the best sopapillas I ever had. It is worth the drive.”

“We love the Mi Rancho restaurant in the Kroger shopping center at Kuykendahl and FM 2920. The lunch specials are a bargain seven days a week, dinner prices are reasonable, the food is hot and delicious and the margaritas are wonderful. The staff are always prompt and courteous and some have been there for many years. My husband and I have enjoyed meals at this restaurant many times and highly recommend it.”

You need to venture out of "Sterileville" to the barrio if you want some authentic Tex-Mex, the burbs just don't cut it. You'll need to try on Airline Dr. between N. Main and 610, on Gessner between I-10 and Kempwood, or on Long Point between Antoine and Gessner. The rest are just impostors.

Sad that Spring Branch is now "the barrio". Grew up there.

It's not true that you have to stay in the hood for good Mexican food. Try Sotos Cantina on Grant Rd near Jones. It's owned by the Soto brothers that had La Paranda. Very good food!

THEBESTCRITIC, you might not like it but all the restaurants listed definitely qualify as Tex-Mex. But if you're looking for a good taqueria then go to South Houston and visit Taqueria La Catarina.
