Carolynn Waites writes:
“I agree with Martin Vela’s rant about a waitperson serving your drink with their fingers around the rim of your glass. I always use a straw in my drink when I go out to eat.
“His rant also reminded me of an incident that happened to me a couple of years ago in a popular Pearland restaurant. My husband had left the table already and I was at our table signing the credit card receipt. The restaurant was set up with the tables all very close together, so you are within reach of each table around you.
“The waiter arrived with a tray full of meals to serve the table behind me. The plates were too hot for him to serve by hand, so he turned around and grabbed my dirty used cloth napkin off my table to serve the plates.
“I was shocked and disgusted that he not only did this, but he was so unconcerned about doing it right in front of me. I just walked out in disgust. Needless to say I have never returned to this restaurant and I still feel bad that I did not bring this up to management or to the table that was being served.”

Carolyn Maas: Daddy O’s Pizza, 2645 Gessner, 713-939-8000
“I want to let everyone know about Daddy O’s Pizza. I never was a big pizza eater, but with grandchildren I started ordering from Daddy O’s. What fantastic pizzas. Chain places advertise on TV and the pizzas look great but there are not a lot of items on the actual pizza when it is delivered. Daddy O’s has a lot of toppings on the pizza. No matter what you order, it is great. A little more money than other pizza places, but it is so worth it.”
Bob Brooks: Costa Brava Bistro, 5115 Bellaire Blvd., 713-839-1005
“After growing up in Bellaire, I have watched from our nearby Houston neighborhood as the little town morphed in unimaginable and inconsistent ways. While now filled with scores of million dollar houses, the number of good restaurants has not kept up with the changing demographics.
“Several months ago Costa Brava Bistro opened up at 5115 Bellaire Blvd. The space once occupied by Chanterelle has been thoroughly, and tastefully, remodeled. It’s essentially all new, and the glaring view towards the adjacent ice cream shop is gone.
“Angeles Duenas and Kitty Bailey are doing a terrific job of bringing Spanish and French cuisine into an embracing, quiet setting. Their attention to detail is all-encompassing, without any overtones of preciousness. The food, whether lunch or dinner, is superbly crafted and served by a very professional staff. The wine list has a wide range and there is a full bar. In two visits this foodie and spouse have yet to find anything we would change. We can’t say enough good things about this gem.”
Daddy O's does have good pizza and is priced correctly.
