Hacienda La Capilla's $3.5 million bottle of tequila boasts 328 carat weight in diamonds.
What does a $3.5 million bottle of tequila look like? See for yourself this week when Spec’s downtown megastore (2410 Smith) displays a diamond-encrusted bottle tequila bottle during a three-day promotion for Mexican distiller Hacienda La Capilla tequila.
On June 28, 29 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. the bottle – encrusted with about 4,000 diamonds totaling 328 carats – will be on display (with two security guards protecting it).
Designed by Fernando Altamirano, the bottle already has been exhibited in Mexico, Paris, London, Dubai, New York and Las Vegas. It eventually will be sold at auction.
Don’t have millions to spend on a bottle of tequila? No problem: the Hacienda La Capilla has a variety of tequila products for sale, averaging about $40.
Fancy clothes, same horrible hangover.
Hangover is the quantity you drink, and the sugars in your cheap margarita mix. Try drinking it, no sipping it, straight.
Why?
That's the way tequila is supposed to consumed. A good tequila is like a good scotch. You pour it in a glass and sip it. In Mexico it is served with a little plate that has thin slices of lime and a little pile of kosher salt that can be enjoyed periodically as you drink. That's the point: Enjoy it. I drank 5 tequilas one night and had no hangover the next day.
But is the tequila good? Who cares about what the bottle looks like-they are only "ugly" when empty!
So the supposed value is the bottle not what's in it.
Impressive. Very beautifully crafted bottle. Now, does the tequilla INSIDE meet the expectations you would have after seeing the OUTSIDE??!!!
This is a stupid marketing gimmick and you should feel bad for being an unintentional (?) shill.
Hmmm. From $3.5MM to $40. Now that's what I call price anchoring. Makes $40 seem reasonable. Think I'll let some of my more flashy friends buy it and I'll try theirs!!
Tequila was the cheapest thing you could buy when I was growing up, and for good reason. It was more of a novelty than anything else. With the influx of Mexicans however a cheap bottle of that rotgut cost as much as Scotch.
Obviously you are very ignorant of tequila. There are many very good tequila's on the market, not the least is the "rot gut" that you drink in the Golden Bottle which is not really a 100% blue agave tequila, but a blend to satisfy the drunken gringo frat boys such as yourself. A good tequila has nuances that you cannot begin to understand, and its fabrication is an art form similar to that of wine, scotch or cognac. So for you to belittle tequila, as really ignorant. Oh, and by the way- the influx of "mexicans" started in 1492. Look it up. Educate yourself.
Actually, the influx started 15,000 years ago. You should educate yourself.
As long as it has Patron in it... It's worth it!:)
you obviously dont know sh*t about tequila if you think Patron is the tops
Im a 100% tequila drinker i love it. but not patron. i live in new mexico, and a bartender. I think a nice don julio 1942 anejo tequila is wonderful, compared to patron. And we have Gran Patrón Burdeos which i tried and would rather prefer the don julio.
What a waste of valuable resources. Why doesn't the president of Hacienda stick rubies up his nose and dance a jig in Spec's. That I'd go see.
Why not just glue a couple of bigger diamonds on it and double it's value. It's like that $3million bra--decorating with an arbitrary amount of diamonds doesn't increase the art aspect of it.
patron is for gringos that don't know anything about fine tequila, a few years it was jose cuervo....try some Don Julio or tres generaciones
I don't always drinks tequila but when I do it's don julio,,,,stay thirsty my friend.
Don Julio tequila is nasty.....
Over/Under on the number of armed guards at Spec's this weekend?
I don't see a WORM?
Tequila does not have a worm, you are confusing it with Mezcal which is made from agave or maguey (Tequila is made from Blue Agave) mezcal is still made from the heart of the maguey plant, called the "piña," much the same way it was 200 years ago, in most places. In Mexico, mezcal is generally consumed straight and has a strong smoky flavor.Though mezcal is not as popular as tequila (a mezcal made specifically from the blue agave in select regions of the country),
Looks penile and tequila isn't that great even when it's dressed up. Very overrated.
"patron is for gringos that don't know anything about fine tequila"
I love all these people coming in telling us what is GOOD tequila. Sorry, it can be 40 dollars a bottle or 400 dollars a bottle, the stuff is disgusting and I believe nobody REALLY likes the taste of it. How could you? It awful...that look people have on their faces when they try to swallow that swill is not because its delicious!! Honestly, most hard alcohol tastes terrible and tequila is the worst...Its okay...you can admit it...Its the internet, nobody knows (or cares) who you are....
Good Tequila is like a good Scotch, you have to acquire the taste for it. i myself prefer Cazadores or Corralejos.
I agree Cazadores is a good all around tequila it goes good with lime and salt or in a mixed drink as well. I don't get the nasty hangover that the Jose Cuervo 1800 crap gives all the frat people lol.
The next smash and grab we read about will be at Spec's.
Wow, the ignorance of these posts and Tequila are big!
Tequila is a fine liquor which is SIPPED in a snifter. Only dumb Americans shoot cheap tequila with lime and salt. A fine Tequila doesn't need anything. I like a cool Reposado myself and if you go to Spec's look on the top shelf for the finer brands and the bottom shelf to mix for margaritas and shoot to get blitzed.
And if you don't like Tequila, go drink Chardonnay!
Its okay, admit it, it tastes terrible...the only ignorance is anyone who puts that swill in their mouth and tries to swallow it. BTW, ONLY dumb Americans shoot cheap tequila (I assume this condescending message comes to us from outside the US?) Me thinks you should crawl out from under that self-important rock you live under if you think Americans have a monopoly on swilling cheap booze. Maybe the difference is they aren't pretentious about it pretending they like it for anything other than getting a buzz (which is what its all about for anyone who chokes down hard liquor.
I grew up in El Paso and partied in Juarez often. I saw just as many "stupid Mexicans" drinking tequila shots as I did "stupid Americans."
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm driving downtown to take a look at this.
Very impressive bottle of tequila.

The agave makes the Tequila. The best "regular priced" Tequila is 1800. Margaritas are for whimps. Sip and dont trip.
