I think you misread this one. This comic is about how, after years of abusing them, Marmaduke finally did a nice thing and bought a couch for them, and then they took so long in coming to pick it up that he fell asleep!
The salesman is quite pleased with himself, because Marmaduke overpaid for it (because dogs don't know about haggling), and the owner-lady is disappointed because the couch doesn't match the drapes (if you know what I mean).
