Marmaduke demands his owners not only read him a story before he goes to bed, but that said story is a recipe from a cookbook. Marmaduke’s owner-man seems to take this in stride, but the ever-darkening circles under Owner-Lady’s eyes indicate that years of humoring a selfish and dangerously humongous beast’s every pointless whim have taken a maddening toll.
i find it amusing that owner-lady/owner-man still have to explain Marm's tyrannical demands to one another . . . it happens more often than it should . . . it's like we're being given a window into things that really aren't meant to be seen, the details of which would only emerge in something like a protracted and painful court proceding years after the fact . . .
The name of the cookbook, obscured by being in Marmaduke’s mouth, is “To Serve Man," thus explaining all of the femur bones found around the house and in the backyard.
