Marmaduke is showing off the trophy from his latest kill. Marmaduke's owner-lady, long having been desensitized to her dog's murderous ways but still concerned that his actions might reflect poorly on her family, admonishes Marmaduke for failing to direct his bloodlust towards more inconspicuous targets (hobos, dock workers, orphans, etc), as opposed to law enforcement officials.

Is it just me or did Marm steal a hat off an English Bobby? I mean I know BA is stuck in the early part of the 20th century, but come-on! Did owner-family also move to England? Also, I think the P.G. Wodehouse estate may have a valid right to sue for a stolen story element her.

You fool! The English Bobby hat is a metaphor for Marmaduke's Jeckyllandhydeness, a theme that has been thoroughly explored throughout the comic since its inception, proof of what truly makes this comic the Mad Men of the funny papers!

More likely she's upset because she knows that when the police come to get their hat they will find the huge pot garden in the back, which Marmaduke would be guarding if he was a worthwhile dog.

What amazes me is that Marmaduke has returned with only one hat as he has the propensity to return with multiple items as he has revealed in previous frames. Or this could be a start of his latest collection.
