Everyone is up in arms on Twitter this morning over boycotthouston.com, but, I don't know. I find it kind of flattering that this city (that we love, don't get me wrong) that so many of us think is kind of backwards is actually totally heading in the right direction and is in danger of becoming the open-minded utopia that we've always dreamed about!
Here are the words on the site's About Us section:
Do you want a Texas version of San Francisco? Neither do we!
Do you want Texas to be the abortion capital of America? Neither do we!
Houston has elected an openly homosexual mayor and built the largest abortion clinic in the United States and you can do something about it!
While you may or may not be a resident of Houston and eligible to vote for mayor, you can vote with your dollar.
This is why we are calling on Christians everywhere to boycott the city of Houston.
We want to impose “economic sanctions” on Houston, Texas!
Please make your voice heard and join our cause. By signing the online petition you send Houston a message; That you are tired of babies being murdered and the radical homosexual agenda being shoved down the throat of normal society.
Texas is a Christian state! Help keep it that way!
Don’t mess with Texas or Texas children.
It almost makes you forget about all the truck nuts, rebel flags and gigantic crosses that dot our fair city. Yes, we're truly living in the San Francisco of Texas. I hope these people never find out about Austin; their heads will explode.
I hope these people "boycott" Houston by never ever coming here.
I hope people in Houston who "boycott" Houston leave. :)
They won't, and that's a shame :(
I noticed they took off the ability to comment on their site. Right wing nutjobs that can't take the heat.
I certainly couldn't find a place to leave a comment - and I tried. Couldn't wait to tell them what I think of them.
Number one on their list of ways to help: "If you take a vacation, do not take it in Houston."
Shit! These guys are going to cripple our huge tourism business!
What about those of us who have been boycotting Houston for years?
"Total Petition Signatures
Boycott Houston: 4"
It's a phenomenon!
The loss of the right wing nutjob tourist dollar will surely cripple our metropolis. Impeach Anisse Parker NOW!!!
I'm proud of Houston!! I was born and raised in Texas and I love it but in the past several years, it has become a right-wing radical place. It is very comforting to know there is a glimmer of hope in the form of Houston's new mayor and now the Planned Parenthood clinic. Houston: you don't want those rednecks coming to your city -they wouldn't be spending much money anyway.
Please don't equate this nut job with the rest of Amarillo. We have been having to listen to him for the last year. He has free reign here because the city officials are scared of him. Please see the website www.repentamarillo.net for the citizens that are trying to stand against him.
