Seven of the nation’s top ice sculptors will compete Saturday, Jan. 5, in the Magnificent Seven ice-carving competition at Discovery Green.

Working with 1,500 gallons of frozen rainwater, the sculptors will carve out their claim to cash prizes and titles, including people’s choice.

The participants include past winner Buddy Rasmussen of San Antonio, master carver Aaron Costic of Ohio, Steve and Heather Brice of Alaska, self-taught sculptor Max Zuleta from Venezuela and reigning National Ice Carving Association champ Benjamin Rand.

The free event will take place downtown at 1500 McKinney.
