Glenn Beck is coming to Houston to tell jokes

Fox News commentator Glenn Beck is on some sort of stand-up comedy tour at the moment and it comes to Houston tonight. I'm imagining something like those Blue Collar Comedy Tour things, with less facial hair but exactly the same amount of wisdom and journalistic integrity.

Beck, for those of you who aren't big into cable news punditry, is one of the most fascinating right-wing talking heads in the business. He follows the Fox News party line like you'd expect ("Obama is a socialist," "immigrants are ruining everything," "wealthy middle-aged white males have it so very very hard") but throws in a bizarre theatricality (his weird alarmist "imaginary doomsday scenario" segment "The War Room" was absolutely eviscerated by Stephen Colbert and his "Doom Bunker") and a habit of crying on camera. You can experience pretty much the full range of the man's talents in one minute thanks to this video from The Huffington Post (which, in the interests of being fair and balanced, is an irritatingly one-sided bleeding-heart political gossip column/smear rag (that I read regularly)).

I occasionally tuned in to his old show on CNN's Headline News Network and I can say that video does a decent job of summing him up, but I think most of what you need to know about the man is manifest in the following two clips.

He will literally say just whatever pops into his head. And he's got a damned TV news show. I don't know how anyone could trust what this guy says; Bret Baier looks way more like an actual beaver, or maybe a cross between a beaver and Mr. Peepers, than he does a character from Leave It to Beaver. What else can you say?

    Ah, yeah, there's that.

Beck performs his sort of one man comedy show tonight at the Verizon Wireless Theater. Tickets cost a certain amount of money. There is probably a phone number and a website you can use to reserve seats. Seeing as lots of things start at 8 p.m., the show probably starts at 8 p.m., unless it doesn't.
