The golden age of Austrian space-pop

    Everyone's had one of those days: one minute you're looking up something legitimate on YouTube, the next minute you're watching a completely silly Austrian music video from (what I can only hope is) the mid 1980s about a planet that forbids love. I think that's what's happening... Judge for yourself:

    I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a catchy little tune. I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't embarrassed for everyone involved in this production. I wouldn't have caught the part in the lyrics about the "liebe mitt" if she didn't hold up her palm to reveal she was wearing what I can only assume is an authentic space-age love glove. God I wish I spoke more German.

    Bonus clip: fellow space-obsessed Teutonic new-wave traveler Peter Schilling performing his lone hit, Major Tom, on German television. In German, naturally. Still a total jam, even if the guttural harshness of his native tongue is a bit jarring after years of hearing the lyrics in English. Guten tag:
