The Houston Film Critics Society has named "Argo," a thriller directed by and starring Ben Affleck, the best film of the year.

"This was one of the toughest decisions we’ve had in years, with fierce advocates for each of the films nominated," said HFCS president Joshua Starnes.

The sixth annual Houston Film Critics’ Awards were held Saturday night at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and included a posthumous award for Jeff Millar, former Houston Chronicle film critic who passed away in November. Millar also created the “Tank McNamara” comic strip, and co-creator Bill Hinds paid tribute during the ceremony.

Steven Spielberg’s "Lincoln" earned three awards, followed by two each for "Argo" and "Skyfall."

The Texas Independent Film Award went to "Bernie," Richard Linklater's film based on a Texas Monthly article starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey and set in Carthage.

Worst film went to Adam Sandler's "That's My Boy."

Is that a joke? He was the only person in the movie who was either too lazy to or incapable of doing an appropriate regional accent. He played a Pennsylvania congressman but he sounded like..... well like he sounds in every movie he makes. I was so perplexed by his performance that I thought, that perhaps Cong. Stevens had been born in the south but he was in fact born in Vermont, but somehow had a huge Texas drawl? Really? That wins acting awards? I wonder why Daniel Day Lewis went to all the trouble to sound like Lincoln rather than just talking like a Brit?
