Live from Joe Mathlete’s Living Room: Horse (Giant Princess redux)

Horse is the long-running project of Giant Princess guitarist Fernando “Nous” Nava, who has self-released at least four and as many as twelve CD-Rs since the turn of the century. I wasn’t aware of any of this when I invited Giant Princess to play a song in my living room last summer, and when the soft-spoken guy who’d been quietly playing ukulele all night gathered the room around him and began singing “Rainbow Connection” I was more than happy to point a camera at him. Try not to let the cat mask creep you out too much.

“Rainbow Connection” is actually a pretty good entryway to Horse’s folky pop songs, which touch on everything from solo Paul McCartney and Tobin Sprout to Disney ballads. Horse is recording another full-length with the rest of his Giant Princesses; hopefully this one will be a little easier to track down than the others (I’m not even sure if he has copies of all his old albums anymore).

Question for every other Houston band that isn’t Horse: How come you aren’t covering “Rainbow Connection” as often as you could be?
