If you don’t like the Ghostbusters films, I don’t want to know you. However, if you like the Ghostbusters enough to film your own sequel and put it up online for the whole world to puzzle over, that’s cool and all and more power to you for doing what you love but we’re probably not going to hang any time soon.
With all the buzz about the new Ghostbusters game and the supposedly forthcoming Ghostbusters III, I hit the YouTube to mainline some Bill Murray/Dan Ackroyd nostalgia but stumbled across the more expensive audio/visual equivalent of Ghostbusters fan fiction: a Ghostbusters fan film. Some guys in Denver put the time and effort into making an entire damn movie, “The Return of the Ghostbusters,” complete with painstakingly recreated costumes and props (as well as someone’s mom’s white Jeep Cherokee with some shitty looking boxes taped to the top of it). Best/worst/nerdiest of all, this appears to be a sequel to ANOTHER bizarre fan movie, “Freddy vs. Ghostbusters.” Yes, that’s Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street. Yes, that’s insanely nerdy.
Here’s the trailer.
Bonus: The “Denver Ghostbusters” confronted by police at the Democratic National Convention last August. “Good for you guys!”
