Wes Anderson's new feature film, Moonrise Kingdom, now has a May 25 release date. And the trailer has also been pinging around for a few days.
It appears Houston native Anderson is returning to bespectacled young fellows in love with the story described as follows:
"Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore -- and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle."
Bruce Willis and Edward Norton join the Anderson sphere with this one. Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman are, not surprisingly back. Those hoping Anderson would reunite with co-writer Owen Wilson may be disappointed. This time out he co-wrote with Roman Coppola, who along with Schwartzman were co-writers on The Darjeeling Limited.
And several other Anderson earmarks are here. Maps and messages, uniforms, zooms on stationary characters staring straight at the camera, Schwartzman, slo-mo scenes and surnames like Shukusky.
Obviously all trailers are designed to make their respective movies look excellent. Anderson's are little self-contained art pieces that boast a certain charming form, with bright colors, luscious use of pop from the '60s and '70s, a requisite slo-motion scene and a gaggle of quips delivered with detached perfection. Which do you think is Anderson's best?
Bottle Rocket
Rushmore
Royal Tenenbaums
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
The Darjeeling Limited
The Fantastic Mr. Fox
